Researchers Identify Genetic Basis for Cancer Cells’ Susceptibility to DNA Damage

Cancer cells’ sensitivity to ionizing radiation results from significant underlying biological diversity within and across lineages, reports a research team that has identified a variety of genetic determinants that enable cancer cells to survive radiation exposure. The findings may make it possible to tailor radiation treatments to exploit the genetic alterations present in a patient’s tumor.
